#WATWB — Sailing to America

Sailing to America

How much do I love this kid?  Right now, Greta Thunberg is sailing to America to join the United Nations Climate Change summit, a 3,000 mile trip from Plymouth England to New York.  The journey is somewhat arduous and lacking in such creature comforts as a toilet (she uses a bucket).  She’ll eat freeze-dried food and write in her diary by lamplight over the course of the next two weeks, but her carbon footprint will be ZERO.

Proving a point — yes, of course. It’s not practical for the world to start traveling by sailboat or horse and buggy or other zero waste modes of travel, but for raising awareness for climate change and environmental degradation — priceless!

The Swedish teen’s got detractors aplenty but is undeterred.  Imagine if more members of congress had a portion of her guts and determination, we wouldn’t even be in this environmental pickle!

The flag on the ship says:  Unite Behind the Science.  Really, is there anything else to say?

Lovely post. It is so weird that there is a backlash against Greta, as if these people must hate and verbally abuse anyone who is doing anything good. Some of what they write (and I just saw this somewhere like the BBC website comments) is utterly vile. We have much to stand against in convincing the world’s population that the planet needs saving and is worth saving to the generations to come, not be used up by the short term gain of the present. As someone said this week, there’s a kind of envy the detractors have, of her clear sighted attitude, and of her seriousness at such a young age.

Hello, Pam. Thank you for this story. I am your co-host this month. I have been following Greta’s story and I love what she is doing. She is so brave, daring climate change sceptics and leaders who adamantly refuse to listen to their citizens. Greta has already succeeded in raising awareness about climate change and environmental degradation.

She’s blooming extraordinary! May she continue to bloom, and the message of ‘Unite behind the Science’ is worthy of being flagged. She landed btw. Thanks Pam, great post!

This is a great story to share here. I’ve been watching this girl and admire her spunk and her smarts. I didn’t know about her flag, but it is spot on. May she have fair winds and following seas.
