Zero Waste Life
Let me start by saying I am nowhere near living a zero waste life. I am actually embarrassed by the amount of trash we produce (both personally, and as a society), but I am doing my best to reduce the amount of waste by paying attention to the things the products I buy are packaged in, buying in bulk where possible, and reducing, reusing and recycling always. I don’t know I’ll ever get to the point where Lauren Singer is — making all my own products — but just buying less is an awesome start.
According to Singer, the average American produces 4.4 lbs. of trash per day! I think I can at least do better than that. I think we all can.
So – whatever you can do to make your footprint less, then go for it! You may not get to zero, but you’ll feel better across all spectrums.
Today is Day 26 of the #AtoZ blogapalooza. Finito! We made it, baby.

You made it to Z, hooray! And yes, I love working out ways we can reuse or recycle stuff more.

Me, too, Resa! Hey have you heard about the new push in fashion to use recycled products? You could corner the market on recycled haute couture!

Yes, I’ve been onto doing it with my Art Gowns for years (6-7). Seems like I’m in a good place. I just need a manager!

Or a celebrity to wear one of them to the Oscars!

How does one go about that? That would be very cool. Any award show formal event!

Good question. Who are you enamored with? I would choose a few people and then write to them — lots of times you can find them on Twitter and can DM them, or FB — and send along some pics along with a compelling letter as to why they should wear your work! It’s a long-shot, but people have gotten noticed that way and your work really does stand out. :0)

Interesting idea! Thank you!
It’s very nice of you to send along this idea! 😀

Lol! The bustle on Contessa Fiori is stuffed with used bubble wrap! I will use anything in an Art Gown!

Hi Pam – great W for your A-Z … or is it Zero?! I’m way behind … but zero waste is certainly something to strive for – or changing our habits … less water etc and as you say less packaging … It’d be great if we could all make an effort, to do something – cheers Hilary

I’m far from zero waste and it does bother me on how much waste I have, but I keep trying and that’s a big start (I hope).

That’s right, Michele. You just have to start!

Buying and wasting less is my ultimate goal. Not only does it benefit the environment, it also goes a long way in avoiding excess clutter, which, in turn, is great for my sanity. 🙂

Yes! I think 🤔 I need a major spring cleaning reboot to get rid of all that no longer serves me. 🌈

I’m still working on it, but it’s very freeing! 😀

I’m not at zero, and probably never will be, but I do my best to keep my footprint small. I enjoyed your A-Z! Thanks for highlighting these environmental issues 🙂

Congratulations, it’s been a lovely challenge, and I like your final post, which seems to draw together the whole of your alphabet. Like you, I’m still trying. I see it as being about small steps. Not sure how many more I’ll need to reach zero waste, but wouldn’t it be good if we were all aiming for it.

I think I may need a few lifetimes to get there, Cath. I try not to buy overpackaged goods and I recycle and I reuse and up-cycle and bring plastic. Bags to the grocery store, but there’s plastic in everything – even my computer and cell phone and car – so it’s hard to avoid waste when you replace products. Ah, well, a work in progress. 😘 Thanks for faithfully reading through this blog challenge!🙏❤️

It is amazing the trash we produce but we are not all to blame – it is the packaging too. Amazon vows to use less packaging that’s a start since they’ve cornered the market for shopping.-

They’ve gotten better, but it’s still too much. Remember when Tower Records used to sell CDs in these oversized plastic add ons. We are just crazy for packaging in this country. :0(

Yes, I do and we could get rid of clamshell packaging as well – it wouldn’t hurt my feelings any.

Thank you, Pauline! Just because I wrote about doesn’t mean I’m doing it all right either. Especially that zero waste idea !💡 That’s hard! I know I can do better, too! Have a great day. ❤️
